When we first set about creating this new Charlton community site, we wanted to introduce a mascot.
We wanted to create something for the site that was also unique to the club, who currently use an out of context dog and a cat!
What first sprung to mind, was a Robin - but this idea slowly dwindled away due to the lack of real connection that links this with the club nowadays. No-one really calls us "The Robins" anymore, and the only real thing (which should never be changed) is the "Red, Red, Robin" player entrance theme. We therefore came up with something a little more up-to-date!
History tells us that in 1963, club officials held a competition for the design of a new club badge. The winning entry went on to become the first version of the current club crest, that of a hand holding a sword.
It was also at this time that Charlton Athletic adopted the nickname of "The Valiants" - linking where the club played (The Valley) to the new club crest. Even though this nickname has been superceded by "The Addicks" (actually believed to have been used originally), it is still very apt.
Our new addickted.net official mascot has therefore been branded and given the name, "Valiant".
An adaptation of the club's badge, we have created a fun character, in the shape of a "cuddly" sword!
You will see him all around our site, as he spends his working day waiting patiently to grab and deliver newly posted news and information from all sites regarding Charlton!
He will then deliver these articles to everyone on the Feed Me Charlton site, as well as letting you know direct (if you are running the FREE desktop application!)
